Leaving from Astorga y La Maragatería

Astorga, with its cathedral, Roman walls and Gaudí's episcopal palace, is the gateway to La Maragatería and a key stop on the Camino de Santiago. It sits where the A-6, AP-71 and N-120 meet, halfway between León and El Bierzo.

Which way it goes

To the north, the AP-66 crosses the mountains through the Huerna tunnel into Asturias, with the toll-free N-630 over Pajares as the alternative; to the south, the A-66 runs down to Zamora via Benavente; to the east, the A-231 follows the Camino to Burgos; and from El Bierzo, the A-6 leads into Galicia. Valladolid is reached on the N-601.

Asturias airport, near Avilés, has many more routes than León's and is an alternative to Barajas for the city and the north of the province, as long as the mountain passes are clear.

Tip: For Las Médulas, allow plenty of time for the return: walks around the site tend to take longer than planned and there is no alternative transport if the pickup is missed.

Airport pickup

For arrivals, the driver waits in the terminal with a name sign and helps with your luggage. We track the flight number, so a delay costs nothing extra within the terminal’s complimentary waiting time.

For early flights

We recommend leaving Astorga at least 145 minutes before you want to be at the check-in desk. We operate through the night, always with an advance booking.

With less margin, that toll is itemised in the quote like any other. There are no hidden charges and no surge pricing.
