How to get there from each area
- León y su alfoz
- From León to Madrid the route goes down the A-66 to Benavente and joins the A-6, which crosses the Guadarrama through the AP-6 toll tunnel or over the Alto del León; the other option is the N-601 through Valladolid. For Barajas, the A-6 is left for the M-40 or M-50 before entering the city.
- El Bierzo
- From Ponferrada and Bembibre the route to Madrid is the A-6, climbing the Manzanal pass towards Astorga and continuing via Benavente and Tordesillas to the Guadarrama. It is a long trip in which the Manzanal and the mountains near Madrid are the tricky stretches in winter; for Barajas the route joins the M-40 or M-50 on reaching Madrid.
- Laciana
- From Villablino the route first goes down mountain roads to Ponferrada or León, then on via the A-6 or A-66 towards Madrid. In winter, snow and ice on the valley's passes can make the first part of the trip much longer.
- Astorga y La Maragatería
- Astorga sits on the A-6, so the way to Madrid runs straight south-east through Benavente and Tordesillas, with the Guadarrama at the end. For Barajas the route leaves the A-6 for the M-40 or M-50 at the entrance to Madrid.
- Tierra de La Bañeza
- From La Bañeza the A-6 heads south via Benavente and Tordesillas and continues to Madrid across the Guadarrama. For Barajas, the A-6 connects with the M-40 or M-50 without going through the centre.
